Approximately 1,000 open-pollinated, non-gmo, pesticide-free, and heirloom Black Eyed Susa (Rudbeckia hirta) seeds per packet. Attracts pollinators. Biennial that typically shows flowers in second year. Plant in fall or early spring on soil surface in trays, bed, or milk jug so seeds can break dormancy. If not planting during cool season, stratify in fridge for 60 days in a bag with moist matter. Then sow seeds just below soil once surface reaches 70F. Water seedlings well and provide drier conditions for adult plant. Direct sow 4-6 weeks before last frost so seeds can stratify. Push seeds into soil every 6-8 inches. Or stratify in fridge for 30 days and then direct sow after last frost. Germinates in 14-21 days. Water evenly until established. Tolerates drought once established. Deadhead to promote new growth. Save seeds after petals fall and cone browns.
