200 open-pollinated, non-gmo, and pesticide free heirloom Detroit dark red beet seeds (Beta vulgaris) per packet. Rounded beets that grow to a 3 in diameter. Blood red color with no zoning. Originate from Ontario, Canada in the late 1800s. Grows in zones 2-12. Direct sow seeds 3-4 weeks before the last frost. Soak seeds in room temperature water up to 24 hours. Then sow 0.5 in deep and pat down soil. Add compost. Need full sun and well drained soil. Space 1-2 in apart. Germination takes 5-14 days. When seedlings are 2-4 in tall, space them to 4-6 in apart. Matures in 55-60 days. Plant with onions, bush beans, cabbage, and broccoli.
