300 open-pollinated, non-gmo, pesticide-free, and heirloom Red Russian Kale seeds (Brassica oleracea) per packet. Light green leaves with purple veins. Leaves become more vibrant purple in consistent cold climates. Crisp and tender when cooked. Mildly sweet flavor. Great addition to salads and dishes. Harvest in 65 days. Introduced to Canada in the 1800s from Russia. Grows in zones 3-12. Sow as early as soil can be worked in spring. Sow three seeds 0.5 in deep every 18 in. Place in direct sunlight. Takes 5-10 days to germinate. Keep soil moist and evenly drained. Mulch around kale. Plant again 8-12 weeks before first fall frost. Plant with cilantro, dill, and alliums. Matures in 65 days. Keep harvesting all season. Cut from base. Isolate from other brassicas. Biennial.
