50 open-pollinated, non-gmo, pesticide-free, and heirloom tendersweet orange watermelon seeds ( Citrullus lanatus) per packet. Oblong shape that grows to 18 inches long and 25 pounds. Orange colored flesh. The original, ancient watermelons were a yellow to orange hue. This variety first grew in the wild of South Africa. Sweet flavor. Produces black seed. Grows in zones 3-12. Direct sow when daytime soil temp reaches 75F. Sow 0.5-1 in deep in mounds, 6-10 ft apart. Needs full sun and loose soil. Or start indoors 0.5-1 in deep 3-4 weeks before last frost. Heat soil to 75-85F. Harden to cold and transplant outdoors 1-2 weeks after last frost. Place strongest 2-3 seedlings in small mounds, 6-10 ft apart. Matures in 95 days. Plant with dill, beans, and marigold.
