Seed Swap Events 2026

January 31st, 2026 is national seed swap day! Seed swaps are a great way for both new and experienced growers to come together and share seeds in addition to growing information, planting or restoration projects, and community building. The goal of seed swaps is to preserve and spread the legacy of seeds that you’ve harvested or saved from previous seasons. Swaps are especially important for heirloom, native, or wild varieties that help build local food sovereignty and regenerate soil.

At the seed swap, you can expect there to be tables with jars, bags, and packs of seeds. People love to share their seeds and the stories behind them! If you are able to, bring a few packs of labeled seeds with at least 15 or so seeds. However, don't skip a seed swap because you don't have any seeds!! Everyone started where you are so don't be discouraged! I recommend bringing your own little bags or containers to safely store the seeds in. Saving and sharing seeds is an indigenous practice dating back thousands of years. Tribes would keep and pass down seeds from generation to generation to preserve their legacy and culture. Some tribes would designate specific members to just focus on preserving seeds!

Here is a full list of seed swap events happening across the United States on Saturday, January 31st for national seed day (unless otherwise noted). To help you start growing, I carry over 180 varieties of heirloom seeds that are open-pollinated, non-gmo, and pesticide free! You can use the code Heirloom for a free pack of seeds with your order. As part of my work, I am actively donating native wildflower and grass seeds through local libraries, gardens, and schools to help restore prairie lands. To add a new seed swap event to the list, please email me at myhealthforward@gmail.com.
